Russell’s footpath street art: Your Streets Your Way Competition
Russell’s Footpath was selected for a makeover through the Your Streets Your Way competition, where local residents had the opportunity to submit their ideas for enhancing our community spaces. The competition asked local people to reimagine and enhance ten key street locations across Lambeth, with a focus on creating vibrant, pedestrian and cycle-friendly spaces.
We are proud to have been part of the Local Judging Panel for the competition. We reviewed over 70 inspiring submissions from residents aged 6 to 74, with 80% hailing from Lambeth, eager to make a positive impact on their neighbourhood. Benjamin Watts’ winning design stood out for its approach in benefiting both users and local businesses and we are delighted to see it coming to life.
Elements we loved:
- Wayfinding signage to make it easier for people to discover everything Streatham has to offer.
- Bright Colours and Iconography, lifting the aesthetic of the concrete stairwell and featuring icons relevant to the amenities and shops on the High Road.
Our involvement in the Your Streets Your Way competition reflects our ongoing commitment to improving Streatham for all.
By supporting projects that enhance our public spaces and shape the future of our streets, Streatham can be a place we all enjoy, attracting more footfall and improving the appeal of our area.

InStreatham BID awarded grant for redesign of Streatham Green
InStreatham BID is excited to announce the launch of an ambitious project to redesign Streatham Green, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. This transformative initiative aims to create a safer, more accessible, and event friendly community space that will serve as a vibrant hub for local residents and visitors alike.
Streatham Green has long been a welcome respite from the bustling High Road. However, we recognise that the park isn’t functioning to its full potential.
The redesign of Streatham Green will focus on reducing antisocial behaviour, and making the space more welcoming and accessible for families, young people, and wheelchair users. The ambitious plan includes comprehensive community engagement to ensure the final design reflects the needs and aspirations of those who use the space daily or those who would like to.
“We are thrilled to embark on this journey to transform Streatham Green. This project is a significant step towards enhancing our community space, making it more inclusive. We look forward to working closely with the residents of Streatham to bring this vision to life.”
Join us on this exciting journey
InStreatham BID is calling on local people and businesses to get involved in the consultation process. Opportunities for community engagement include:
- Streatham Food Festival June 22nd: A chance to share ideas and feedback directly with the project team.
- Stakeholder Consultation Meetings: Sessions designed to gather detailed input from key community members.
- Workshops: Interactive events throughout June and July to shape the design of the park reimagined.
Your input and support will be invaluable as we work together to create a renewed heart for Streatham High Road.
In the past, InStreatham have introduced various actions such as additional seating in the park to bolster support for small local eateries, colourful vinyls for the benches, bunting and playful floor vinyls like hopscotch and snakes and ladders that provided entertainment for children. Lamp columns were dressed with floral displays, complemented by butterflies nestled among the trees. Posters were even added to the bins to remind people to dispose of their gum properly as a littering intervention.
We’re hoping the new park redesign will bring about lasting positive changes, turning the green into a welcoming hub for all to enjoy.
Stay tuned for more updates!
Anti-shoplifting scheme: a milestone in our fight against retail crime
Our commitment to prioritising a safe and secure environment for businesses has yielded tangible results through our anti-shoplifting scheme.
Since the launch of our programme, we’re proud to report significant improvements in our efforts to create a safer environment for Streatham businesses – one notable achievement is the successful prosecution of a prolific shoplifter. We took proactive steps to address the persistent issues of shoplifting and anti-social behavior back in 2022, understanding the urgency, the BID collaborated a private investigation company.
As shoplifting rates continue to rise across the country, this story stands as a source of optimism. Through the diligent work with our partners and store managers, this individual, with over a hundred previous convictions, including numerous burglaries, was brought to justice—a feat that underscores the effectiveness of our collaborative approach.
