Protect your business: Cyber Resilience Centre

The Cyber Resilience Centre for London are a police and government-backed not-for-profit organisation and part of a national network of Centres, that help small businesses and third-sector organisations strengthen their resilience against common cyber-attacks.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s annual Cyber Security Breaches survey shows 36% of micro businesses and 48% of small businesses suffered a cyber security breach or attack within the last 12 months, losing an average of £3,080 as a result. Attack via social media is a common issue small business’ face. Fraudsters contact you under the pretence of someone from the social media platform and will notify you of being in violation of something. To comply you need to click on a link and login. This gives your credentials to the criminal so they can gain access to your account. They change your login details and email address to remove your access and start posting from your account to scam your followers. They might even ask for payment so you can regain control.

2-Step Verification prevents unauthorised access to your online account because a onetime passcode sent to the phone or generated by an authenticator app is not available to the criminal, keeping your account locked even if the password is compromised.
