We aim to attract greater investment into Streatham and work hard to secure additional external funding to boost revenue to make sure that Streatham gets its fair share from the public sector such as the Council, TfL, Network Rail and others. Recently we were awarded funding through TfL's Healthy Streets Fund to power an electric cargo bike scheme, we have also secured funding from the Mayor’s New Homes Bonus and from Lambeth Council. Match funding the investment that our businesses are putting into Streatham.

Inward Investment

Streatham is growing a reputation as a hotspot for innovative businesses. Our mission is to diversify Streatham’s business base by attracting strategic investment from the UK.

We've teamed up with the three other South Lambeth BIDs (Brixton, Clapham and Station to Station) to create a local recruitment initiative to match local people with local jobs. This bespoke service will support businesses by assisting them in the time consuming and costly task of recruitment whilst securing improved staff retention and helping to cut travel costs for potential employees. It is free of charge to all levy paying businesses within the BID areas. Once a candidate is appointed, the service will continue to monitor progress and feedback with businesses on how the employees settle. The service also includes information on how to access the government’s Kickstart scheme. This scheme fully funds a young person to work for 25 hours a week for 6 months in your business, if you can offer them a position and training. Contact us to find out more.

Since the beginning of the pandemic we’ve helped over 300 businesses get back on their feet through various support channels to help them navigate the new business landscape created by the pandemic. We stay in regular liaison with Lambeth Council to ensure businesses receive the correct finance grants and provide guidance on making applications for funding. Additionally, we lobby the local MP and Council for sectors that are excluded from the standard grants. Read through our support hub https://instreatham.com/covid19/ and recovery guide https://instreatham.com/rescue-recover-reform/.

Working closely with six business owners along the old Bedford Row, Our business development guru, Wendy Jackson of Scope for More, helped them to view their premises through the eye of potential new customers. This pilot project focused on businesses at the St. Leonard’s junction and how we could better showcase this gateway to Streatham.Visiting the businesses monthly over the course of six months, Wendy assisted owners in creating a more welcoming shopping environment and maximising their sales in our changing neighbourhood. Once all shop improvements are complete, we plan to fundraise for a place identity painting above the retail units to welcome people to Streatham. Traders reported that they found the 121 contact helpful and hope to participate in our seasonal events and festivals. Read more about the project here.

Streatham is rich with culture. When InStreatham started back in 2013 Streatham High Road had not been hot jet washed for 11 years meaning our pavements and shop fronts were looking tired and dreary. Since then we’ve carried out ongoing works to improve Streatham’s landscape by delivering annual jet washing initiatives and chewing gum removal.
