Transforming Streatham Green

A safer, more accessible, and welcoming community space

Streatham Green has long been a welcome respite from the bustling High Road. However, we recognise that the park isn’t functioning to its full potential...

The redevelopment of Streatham Green will focus on enhancing the area’s green credentials, reducing antisocial behaviour, and making the space more welcoming for families and disabled individuals.

Community Consultation

We hosted three kinds of community consultation to ensure we heard local voices. At our annual Streatham Food Festival, Outerspace ran an engagement stand, gathering feedback on priorities. We then formed a key stakeholder group of business and community group representatives, and residents who were able to critique and guide the evolution of the design. Alongside this, we ran an online survey where we gathered 100 responses!

Here you can see some of the interventions introduced in the past to make the space more welcoming. The new park redesign will aim to bring about lasting positive changes, turning Streatham Green into a community hub for all to enjoy.

FAQs

How will the project address issues like antisocial behaviour? Expand

The redesign aims to include features that discourage antisocial behaviour, such as better lighting and open spaces that will encourage more people to use the space regularly, increasing natural surveillance. Post-design, we will continue to monitor the area to assess the effectiveness of the changes.

We will work closely with the Metropolitan Police and collaborate with local support services to provide assistance to individuals who may need help, such as those struggling with substance abuse or homelessness.

Who are the key partners in this project? Expand

InStreatham BID is leading the project in partnership with the London Borough of Lambeth and a team of experienced landscape architects and urban planners.
